Fellowship level courses for the CEM exams |
||||||||||
We run two courses to assist your preparation for the FCEM - an OSCE day and a viva day covering the management component of the exam. There have been recent changes to our courses in response to the changes in the College exam regulations - please read carefully. The OSCE day The course is similar in structure to the MCEM OSCE day but we expect a much higher standard from the candidates.There is only a small amount of didactic teaching with a heavy emphasis on exam technique and polishing up what, by now, should be a "good-to-go" product. There is personalised tuition throughout the day based on the candidates performance in each of the OSCE stations. This tuition is delivered by our team of tutors and so that we can provide a maximum coach:candidate ratio of 1:4 (more usually 1:3) the number of candidates on each course is strictly limited. We expect candidates to turn up in full "exam mode" and be prepared to work hard at what is a very intense day. There are some written materials provided on the day but this is a “hands on” course with an emphasis on doing rather than reading. The score sheets used in the stations on the day will be given to you as an aide memoir. For an overview of the day's timetable have a look on the MCEM courses page. The Viva and Management day Continuing changes by the College in the structure of the exit examination have required changes in the what and how we deliver on this day. We now start the day with a session covering general viva technique with some demonstrations using CTRs. Following this there is some didactic teaching but most of the day concentrates on practice scenarios. Similar to the OSCE day the number of candidates is limited in order to enable a maximum coach:candidate ratio of 1:4 (more usually 1:3). Feedback is again individual and based upon the candidate's performance in vivas. Please note that we do not currently review CTRs as part of this day. Cost The cost of each place on the OSCE course (including materials, refreshments and lunch) is £360. The cost of each place on the management viva day is £200. Each place has materials, refreshments and lunch provided. To attend both days there is a discount applied so that the two day cost is £510. This is fully refundable until two weeks before the course. Cancellation after this will incur a charge of 50% although your place is transferable to a colleague.
